Appointment of a new Provincial Secretary

The Primate of Brazil, The Most Revd Mauricio Andrade, has appointed the Revd. Arthur Cavalcante, from the Anglican diocese of Sao Paulo, for the post of Provincial Secretary of the Episcopal Anglican Church of Brazil – IEAB. The Revd Arthur will succeed the Revd Canon Francisco de Assis da Silva, who was Provincial Secretary since 2006. This appointment comes after an intense process of consultation between bishops, the Chair of the House of Deputies and leadership of the IEAB. Canon Francisco de Assis will be consecrated bishop for the Southwestern Diocese and move to his new diocese in March.

The new Provincial Secretary holds a degree in Dentistry, as well as a Bachelor of Theology from the Anglican Seminary in Recife (2002) and a Master of Science in Religion from the Methodist University of São Paulo (2010). Fr. Arthur Cavalcanti served as Executive Secretary of the Anglican Diocese of Recife (DAR) from 2002-2003. He has been Rector of the Parish of Holy Trinity in São Paulo since 2005. In addition, he has been a member of the National Commission on Liturgy of the Episcopal Anglican Church of Brazil and a member of the Working Group on Religions – HIV / AIDS in the state of São Paulo since 2006. He is also an instructor at the Institute for Theological Studies (IAET), where he has taught since 2004, and a visiting professor at the Anglican Seminary in Recife since 2010.

The Episcopal Anglican Church of Brazil welcomes its new Provincial Secretary and offers to the Revd Canon Francisco de Assis da Silva its gratitude for his service during the last four years, with wishes for a blessed new ministry as bishop.
